Biblio Bengaluru is now on www.meetup.com ; and we had another meeting at Mr. Beans. The topic was John Grisham's legal thrillers, but this was rarely discussed!

Since two among us had had the experience of staying in both the Northern and the Southern parts of the country, initially, our conversation traveled on the lines of Delhi vs Bangalore.
While Bangalore has its commonly quoted 'good climate', MNCs and IT companies, and the decent and civic people;

Review: Gone with the Wind

Gone with the Wind review by Sudheer Satyanarayana at Biblio Bengaluru

Scarlett O'Hara is undoubtedly a popular protagonist. The character is nearly as famous as the book itself.

It took me about five months to read the book. It's a fat book, my friend. Eight hundred and thirty three pages. This book was in my to-read list from over a decade. I've seen others reading it for several months too.

The narration is engaging. You can wear the hat of a sociologist, psychologist, political scientist, historian and many others and enjoy the fine literature. I had to look up dictionary many times. You will come across some archaic words like Fiddlededee. There are some other interesting terms like Carpetbagger, Scallawag, southern gentleman and southern belle. Let me tell you about two of them.

Southern belle: The ideal, young and charming woman who abides by the female code of conduct.

Southern gentleman: The man who has good manners, respects and escorts woman and serves in the army.

This time, we're discussing Indian writing. Do you read this genre? If not, it's a great opportunity to get recommendations from people who have read a lot of books in this genre. You like a particular book and want to share your review?

Come, let's have a chat. A lot can happen over coffee!

Date:
Saturday, March 31, 2012 - 15:30 to 17:30
Venue:
The Bandstand, Cubbon Park
Body:

The last meeting, Ms. Meena was a tremendous success. We saw lot of new faces and lot of energy. All of us are anxiously waiting for another play watching group activity. Thanks to Sylvia Britto for organizing it. You can see some pictures on our Facebook group.

Sidney Sheldon is certainly the master of his game: writing. In the Unites States Of America, he's known for his TV works. He is the sixth best selling writer of all time. Many of us have read his books till the other side of midnight. The world-renowned author passed away on January 30, 2007. But his memories remain forever in the hearts of bibliophiles.

How many of the following crime fiction and thrillers have you read or want to read:

  • The Naked Face
  • The Other Side of Midnight
  • A Stranger in the Mirror
  • Bloodline
  • Rage of Angels
  • Master of the Game
  • If Tomorrow Comes
  • Windmills of the Gods
  • The Sands of Time
  • Memories of Midnight
  • The Doomsday Conspiracy
  • The Stars Shine Down
  • Nothing Lasts Forever
  • Morning, Noon and Night
  • The Best Laid Plans
  • Tell Me Your Dreams
  • The Sky Is Falling
  • Are You Afraid of the Dark?

?

Come, join us to discuss the writings of Sidney Sheldon. Cubbon park is an open space. The Bandstand offers shelter from the scorching sun and rain. But I think, we're better off sitting in a circle on the grass. You can buy coffee and corn in the park. There's plenty of parking space available.

Each of the attendees would be requested to introduce themselves to the group. You can talk about the books you've read on the theme. The theme happens to be Sidney Sheldon this time. Many of us use the opportunity to exchange books.

There's no entry or membership fee.

Arnab Bandyopadhyay has created the logo for us. We're awarding him a cup of coffee as a token of appreciation.

You can tell us whether you're coming to the meeting by posting a comment here or clicking RSVP on our Facebook event page. You can also reach us on Google+ and Goodreads.

My humble request to all you attendees, please do not underestimate the traffic and try to be on time. If you require any help, contact me. Please send me a private message to obtain my mobile number.
